The Aliens
Scenic Design
Forbes Center for the Performing Arts Studio Theatre, September 2015 Director: James Lex Technical Director: Adam Jordan The Aliens is set behind an old cafe as two high school drop outs take over the staff area. They take a young coffee barista under their wing as they teach him about life and music. The audience saw the side of the building as they entered just like the characters would on their way to the back. Audiences could read a "No Trespassing" sign and peer through the fence as they made their way to their seats. The compost bin stage right was used by a character as a ladder to hop the fence. During an acting exorcize, the actors were each assigned either green, red, or blue paint. They were then told to spatter the floor in areas they felt their character liked to spend time in or seemed to travel through a lot. If two characters found themselves in the same area, then both colors would exist together, just as the characters would. This created the texture of the floor and reflected the bond the characters form throughout the show. |
